  18. PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 27, 1992 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
  19. announced two mail-enabled applications for its standards-based
  20. electronic-messaging solution. This announcement delivers on HP's
  21. strategy to provide users with a choice of applications that use its
  22. X.400, UNIX* system-based HP OpenMail server and messaging
  23. infrastructure. The new applications for workflow and
  24. calendar/scheduling make scheduling and the automation of business
  25. processes easier in an organization.

  28. Mail-enabled Workflow Automation

  30. HP today announced immediate shipment of its object-oriented,
  31. electronic-mail-enabled workflow-automation product, HP WorkRouter.
  32. Along with the software, HP also is providing consulting and
  33. implementation services through its Professional Services Organization
  34. and selected client/server solution integrators.
  35.  
  36. With HP WorkRouter, simple workflows can be created by end users and
  37. sophisticated workflows can be created by experienced developers. It
  38. uses the concept of "intelligent folders" that can be routed through
  39. the messaging network. The folders contain multimedia data objects,
  40. user instructions, agent tasks* that automate the folder and its
  41. contents, and fixed or dynamic routing slips.

  44. The product is designed to support business-process automation for
  45. increased productivity in an enterprise. Customers currently are using
  46. HP WorkRouter for applications that help eliminate or streamline
  47. processes that use paper, including review and approval.

  50. HP WorkRouter runs in an object environment, making it easy to use; it
  51. also provides agent-task capability for rapid application development.
  52. Virtually any Microsoft(R) Windows application can be integrated into a
  53. workflow, and HP WorkRouter supports both dynamic link library (DLL)
  54. and dynamic data exchange (DDE).

  57. Consulting services are supported by procedures and templates supplied
  58. by the HP product division. HP consultants can help shorten process -
  59. development time and ensure that customers take maximum advantage of
  60. the product's features.

  64. with well developed consulting services makes HP WorkRouter an
  65. attractive tool for workflow automation," said Ronni Marshak of the

  70. or HP 3000-based messaging networks.

  75. In a related announcement, HP and Dexotek Canada Corp. said that the
  76. Dexotek Unison time-management system, a mail-enabled application for
  77. HP's electronic-messaging solution, now is available. Dexotek Unison is
  78. an enterprisewide, client/server time-management system, specially
  79. adapted for integration with the HP OpenMail directory of users.

  82. Unison's distributed database of time-management information enables
  83. users to maintain a personal calendar and to schedule meetings,
  84. resources and events within a workgroup or throughout a corporation.
  85. The Unison productivity tool includes to-do lists, repetitive
  86. scheduling, attachment of meeting agendas and notes and free-time
  87. searches for groups of people who are located anywhere in an
  88. organization.

  99. agents, are achieved through the HP Openmail user agent layer an
  100. application programming interface (API) that supports international and
  101. adopted standard interfaces. Through this user agent layer, a growing
  102. list of HP, Channel Partners and custom messaging applications can
  103. exploit the rich functionality of the HP OpenMail server. As a result,
  104. end users continue to work with familiar, best-in-class desktop
  105. applications, while information technology departments provide
  106. standards -based and scalable messaging services to support
  107. corporatewide network communications.
